Overview
We are seeking a dedicated instructor to develop and lead engaging Yoga and Pilates programs for older adults during the daytime beginning in the fall session. An ideal candidate will have experience teaching older adults and be comfortable delivering a variety of classes, including Pilates or Chair Yoga, Gentle Yoga and other age-friendly wellness-focused programs. The position will initially instruct one to three programs (1-4 hours) per week based on participant registration and program demand.
Specialized training or certification in one or more of the following is considered an asset:
- Chair Yoga
- Gentle Yoga
- Therapeutic or Adaptive Yoga
- Restorative Yoga
Responsibilities
- Develops and conducts engaging programs for participants, ensuring they meet the program and participant goals
- Demonstrates and reinforces safe movement practices, proper form, and the appropriate use of Yoga and/or Pilates equipment while monitoring participant safety throughout each class.
- Gathers and organizes program equipment.
- Maintains accurate records, including class attendance and accident/incident reports, and distribute relevant forms and program information.
- Responds to participants' immediate concerns and needs, providing excellent customer service.
- Acts as a liaison between participants and the facility, promoting a positive program experience
- Provides first aid as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
- Minimum high school diploma and current technical and practical training in a specific discipline.
Experience
- Minimum of one year of related experience.
- Experience providing instruction within a program setting.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
- Be able to work flexible hours including daytime, evening, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the program.
- Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment.
- Valid Emergency First Aid and CPR Level “C” or willing to obtain prior to start date.
- Completion of a recognized Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) program if teaching yoga or certification in good standing as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200 or higher) or equivalent recognized yoga teaching credential if teaching yoga.
- Completion of a Pilates certification in good standing if teaching Pilates.
- Completion of meditation certificate from an accredited institution if teaching meditation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Ability to motivate a diverse group of participants
- Ability to adapt workouts to different fitness levels and abilities.
- Skills in customer service and client relationship management.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
