Job Description: 

Overview

The Senior Labourer (Arenas) helps keep the building clean and welcoming, takes care of outdoor maintenance, and handles various tasks related to the arenas. ​ This includes cleaning washrooms, dressing rooms, and public areas, mowing the grass, setting up for special events, moving sports nets, shoveling snow, and assisting customers with any questions or needs they might have. We are looking for responsible individuals, with the ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Performs janitorial tasks in accordance with the daily and weekly work plan, such as cleaning washrooms, dressing rooms, meeting/hospitality rooms, public areas, stands and outside grounds. Further details on what will be required is listed below: 
    • Sweep and mop floors in dressing rooms using brooms and mops
    • Clean sinks, countertops, toilets, urinals, mirrors, windows, walls, floors, water fountains, and all touch points
    • Empty wastebaskets, garbage cans, recyclables, compost and transports to disposal areas
    • Re-stock paper products
  • Performs outdoor maintenance including snow removal, hand salting, grass cutting, line trimming, picking litter.
  • Provides exceptional customer service, responds to inquiries from participants and the public.
  • Assists with set-up for special events/room rentals (chairs, tables, stage deck, curtains).
  • Uses Active net to check facility booking schedule.
  • Supports our Full-Time staff with on ice procedures - move nets, shovel snow.
  • Opens and closes facility.
  • Completes facility logbook as required to ensure  information is recorded and shared with co-workers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Minimum equivalent to partial secondary school education.

Experience

  • Minimum 6 months of related experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work weeknights and weekend shifts, including some holiday shifts; starting as early as 7:00am and finishing as late as 1:00am.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Takes action to deal with incidents, problems, and emergencies, contacts appropriate staff. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment with limited supervision in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision/direction while adhering to policies and procedures of the arena, which will be provided to you upon hire.
  • Able to perform physical labour and be able to lift to 30lbs, walking and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to work in inclement weather conditions (cold indoor environment as well as all outside weather conditions).
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of Arenas, which will be provided to you upon hire.
  • Adheres to established schedules and timelines to ensure programs operate efficiently.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
