Job Description: 

Overview

Seeking a dedicated Music Instructor to develop and deliver engaging  group music appreciation, piano and guitar programs for older adults starting in the Fall. An ideal candidate will have experience in teaching music strong communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment for participants of varying skills levels.  Programs are scheduled during the daytime on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The position will initially support one to three programs per week based on participant registration and program demand.  Schedule is dependent upon program registration and seasonal offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging music programs for participants. Creating lessons and learning plans that accommodate a variety of skill levels and musical interests
  • Demonstrate and teach music fundamentals using established instructional methods providing helpful feedback to participants.
  • Gather and organize necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records, including class attendance and incident reports, and distribute relevant forms and program information.
  • Gather and ensure equipment is working properly, in good condition and stored properly
  • Respond to participant questions and concerns while providing excellent customer service.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Minimium high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One or more of the following music credentials:
    • Completion of minimum grade 8 of The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) program, including practical and theory certifications.
    • Equivalent recognized music training, certification, or professional teaching experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of related experience.
  • Experience providing instruction within a program setting.

  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
  • Be able to work flexible hours including daytime, evening, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the program.
  • Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment.
  • Valid Emergency First Aid and CPR Level “C” or willing to obtain within 3 months of hire.
