Overview
Reporting to the Supervisor, Damage Prevention, as the Locator, Damage Prevention, you will be responsible for performing locates for Gas and Water underground infrastructure in accordance with ORCGA requirements and Ontario One Call Regulations.
Please note this position requires on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Performs and documents gas and water locates of underground pipelines.
- Organizes and prioritizes locate requests to maximize efficiency.
- Measures and marks located facilities using paint, flags, stake etc.
- Communicates changes required to maintain the accuracy of infrastructure management system i.e., CityWorks and ArcReader
- Communicates relevant details to construction and maintenance personnel.
- Uses locating software to create, track, complete and share locates.
- Utilizes computers, tablets, phones, etc. to receive locates.
- Conducts record keeping duties (detail sheets and drawing filing, etc.).
- Responds to public and internal gas and water information requests.
- Responds to emergency callouts and works overtime as may be required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
- Minimum high school diploma with up to one year of post-secondary education.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of performing natural gas.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience of performing water infrastructure locates.
Additional Requirements
- Must have Ontario Regional Common Ground Alliance Damage Prevention Technician Certification in Natural Gas and Water.
- Valid full class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing.
- Must be able to able to kneel, crouch, and carry up to 50 lbs in various environments.
- Must be willing to be part of rotational on-call schedule, responding to emergency call outs and working overtime as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts relating to design and construction process and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CSA Z662 code, traffic control and occupational health and safety.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting drawings.
- Demonstrated locating experience using electronic locating equipment, preferably Radio detection or Metrotech equipment.
- Proven mathematical and computing skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, AutoCAD).
Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Proven verbal, written and electronic communication skills.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must have the ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
