Job Description: 

Overview

As a Collections Officer, you will identify and collect delinquent property taxes, utility bills, and miscellaneous receivables, handle inquiries professionally, prepare payment requests, analyze refund requests, and negotiate payment plans. 

 

(Temporary Full Time for Approximately 12 Months)

Responsibilities

  • Identify and collect overdue property taxes, utility bills, and miscellaneous receivables, guiding accounts through the collection process and recommending actions like shut off, tax sale, or write off.
  • Handle inquries professionally and politely both over the phone and in person regarding property taxes, utility billings, and miscellaneous receivables.
  • Prepare correspondence to property owners or tenants requesting payment and determine payment arrangements according to established policies.
  • Analyze and approve refund requests.
  • Negotiate payment plans and initiate account transactions, ensuring all adjustments are legitimate and accurate. 
  • Stay flexible with regular shift rotations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Education

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience, including experience in collections.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to pass a related test
  • Ability to handle customer interactions courteously and effectively, especially in stressful situations
  • Support and project values compatible with the organization
  • Demonstrated coping skills for stressful situations
  • Experience with computerized billing/payment systems, especially ERP systems like SAP
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy team environment
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in Windows, Word, and Excel
  • High level of accuracy and well-developed keyboard skills. 
  • Demonstrated mathematical skills, with the ability to pass a related math test.
  • Experience dealing with confidential information, exercising discretion and good judgment.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
