Job Description: 

Overview

The Aquatic Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development, planning, implementation, and service delivery of Aquatic programs, including administration functions, on-deck leadership and coordination of staff and volunteers for instructional programs, recreational swims, Aquatic Fitness, and private pool rentals. In addition, the Aquatic coordinator is responsible for providing strong leadership, motivation, scheduling and supervision to part-time Aquatic assistants, Lifeguards and Swim Instructors, Head guards and volunteers.

 

Please note: This position requires flexible hours to support staff and programs on evenings and weekends.

 

Position Hours:

Tuesday to Friday 11:00am-7:00pm,

Saturday 8:30am-4:30pm

The work week for this position will be Tuesday to Saturday

 

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, and implements programs to ensure the successful delivery of Swim lessons and other ongoing aquatic programs to accommodate all ages, skill levels, and needs.
  • Coordinates the delivery of Aquatic programs including, Inclusive programs, School Programs including Swim to Survive, and water smart programming.
  • Oversees aquatic staff and volunteer program convenors. trains, co-ordinates and evaluates the work of the aquatic team.
  • Communicates regarding policies and procedures, course content, customer feedback and complaints, and other Centre communication as needed.
  • Responds to customer concerns and complaints regarding aquatic programming.
  • Maintains records including staff training and orientation, staff performance and participation numbers. Compiles statistics and reports relating to aquatic programming.
  • ensures budgetary targets are met.
  • Work with Aquatic team in the direct delivery of Aquatic programming
  • Collaborates with other staff at all facilities (front office staff, custodial staff, supervisor), in the sport division and across the corporation.
  • Provides support to City of Kitchener aquatic leadership instructors and courses.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Minimum 2-year diploma or two years post-secondary program

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years related aquatic programming experience

Additional Requirements

  • Access to reliable transportation for attending off-site meetings, purchasing supplies, etc.
  • Be willing to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check in good standing as a condition of employment.
  • Must have the following Qualifications:
    • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (Pool) Certification
    • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification
    • Current Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Certification
    • Current Lifesaving Society Examiner status (Bronze family)
    • Current Standard First Aid with CPR level C
    • Current Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid Instructor Certification
    • Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Certification
    • Recognized Aquafit Instruction certifications
    • One of the following or working towards:
      • National Lifeguard Instructors Certifications
      • Lifesaving Society Trainer Certifications
      • AQX Trainer Certification

  • Demonstrated programming experience, including program development, coordination, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff and volunteer management, including, training, overseeing the work of others and providing feedback to build skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in community development, including identifying community priorities and planning programs to meet the diverse needs of a community.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, monitoring, and analyzing program and as well as identifying and correcting any issues that may occur.
  • Experience in grant applications and administration.
  • Demonstrated excellent skills and experience in customer service, behaviour management and risk management.
  • Strong experience with behaviour management principles and able to train and coach others on behaviour management techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and administrative skills.
  • Proven leadership skills and be committed to working within a cooperative team environment.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers and able to use software packages including Microsoft office, ActiveNet, SAP and Internet.
  • Proven collaboration skills and demonstrated experience working with a large team of staff.
